Government Shut Down Will No Longer Stop Atlantic City Gambling

Natural disasters will be the only thing in the future that will have the power to shut down Atlantic City casinos. Natural disasters and the Governor of the state.

Governor Jon Corzine signed a new law into effect that will allow casino gambling to go on in Atlantic City even if the state government shuts down. Casinos in the state have been lobbying for the new law.

The casinos claim that they lost about $55 million in the three days they were forced to close back in 2006 when the state government shut down. While receiving the ruling they wanted, casinos must now be cautious should they stay open while the government shuts down.

The governor may now unilaterally shut down any casino that is caught doing things severely wrong while inspectors are not working. Heavy fines will also be an option for the governor.

"This is a positive occasion that arose from a very difficult time. Directly after the shut down, we resolved that this could not occur again," said President of the Casino Association of New Jersey, Joe Corbo.

The move was made by the governor to ensure that the financial loss that occurred back in 2006 would not again be an issue in the state.
